Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival
28 February 2016 (12 noon - 6.00pm)
Federation Square
A TASTE of Japan is coming to Federation Square.
Held on the 28 February, the Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival is a vibrant introduction to the delights of the Japanese culture.
The afternoon includes traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, food, activities and entertainment.
Now in its 7th year, the Japanese Summer Festival will celebrate the Bon Festival, which involves giving thanks to one's ancestors and is one of the most important traditions in Japan. Everyone will have the chance to learn the traditional Bon Odori, a dance performed in a circle by participants wearing cotton kimono known as the Yukata.
Festival entertainment will include Taiko drumming and Japanese song and dance. Games and activities such as origami and yo-yos offer family fun. There is also a best dressed competition and a raffle with the grand prize of two Jetstar flights to Tokyo.
