A cat is un gatto is mačka

September 28, 2014

How do you say ‘cat’, ‘dog’, ‘hunger’ or ‘star’ in various European languages? James Trimble created an interactive European language map that can answer these questions. Type in an English word and it shows you the equivalents in many national languages of Europe. It is not a translation tool in the first place (and it relies on Google translate with all its drawbacks) but it shows you whether words in different European languages are related or not. Click here to generate your own language maps. It's a lot of fun!
